Tribute & Message From The Family

Kappes, Florence K., 102, of Galloway Twp passed away peacefully on June 10, 2018. Florence was born in Atlantic City on July 12, 1915 to Edna (Barnes) and William Kappes Sr. After graduating from Atlantic City High School in 1933 she worked in South Jersey until 1943 when she moved to New York City. There she went to work for Smith Barney & Co, The National Foreign Trade Council and The New York Times. While living in New York she attended Calvery Baptist Church where she developed many lasting friendships.

Florence was an avid hiker and hiked up into her early nineties. At age 99, she moved back to South Jersey to reside at Spring Village where she spent her remaining years. Florence was an extremely intelligent, thoughtful, kind and considerate woman. A real lady in every sense of the word. She lived a long, prayerful and giving life. She loved the Lord and served him well. Florence is survived by her niece Edna (Kappes) McGowan and her niece's family; Patrick Jr. (Margaret), Lori Bauder (Jim), Shawn (Laura), and Meghan, Patrick III, Ryan and Tommy McGowan.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Graveside Service for Florence Thursday June 14, 2018 at 12noon at the Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Florence was one of our most friendly and personable residents here at Addison Hall, 457 West 57th Street. She talked many times about our lives and how to sort and preserve our family memorabilia. I miss entering the elevator and finding her there.

My mom, Raymonde Johnson, knew Florence at Spring Village. She was very friendly to mom, always a smile for her. Mom already misses her.
