Tribute & Message From The Family

Martina Tina Lyons fondly known as "Tina" was born in Philadelphia on February 17th 1929 to Roosevelt Roberts and Effie Mae (Williams) Roberts and passed away on April 13th 2020. Martina's Christian journey was enlightened very early in life. She was a very devout Christian attending St. Elizabeth Parish, Shekinah Glory Ministries, under the late Pastor Delores Williams where she became a fire filled worshiper! She would visit Bethel Deliverance Church Northeast who she grew to have fond and loving relationships with the Church Community.

Martina had multiple talents that she loved and shared but her gifts were in loving and serving. She had worked hard all of her life in various small factory jobs, spent years at Campbell Soup and spent the remaining until retirement under the School District of Philadelphia as a Cook/ Nutritionist for the "Get Set Day Care Centers" and now known as Comprehensive Day Care. She loved her co-workers and the children she served and taught in love.

She had many other part time jobs that she filled with dedication and love but at 16 Plus is where she had fun. It showed her love for fashion and design. Martina performed in many of their runway fashion shows and boy she looked amazing!

Martina's life and legacy was always to help, to shelter, provide wisdom and to fight right along with you. She was always playful and filled with fun. Her amazing stories that she told as she looked over her glasses were ones of survival, laughter, knowledge and wisdom that left you want for more. Family was her truest love with God being first at all times but dependable and always there was known by all.

Martina joins her late love and best friend Elijah J. Moss who she lovingly took care of during his battle of Alzheimer until his final hours in 2012. She also was married to William Henry Lyons who died in 1961; Martina had six children and two stepsons. Martina Smith died in 1997, William Henry Lyons (Kathleen), Gary Moss, Beverly E. Johnson, Donald Moss (Patricia), Bryant Earl Lyons (Michelle), Sherry Bernadette Williams (Wallace), Yvette I. Lyons (widowed-late Kevin Thomas). She is survived by her sister, Theotis Holmes. Martina's brother and sister Irene Abrams (Phila) and Wallace Jordan both preceded her in death.

Martina had many adoring grandchildren, great grandchildren and great–great grandchildren!

Granddaughters' Nashelle Smith and Shalonda Williams welcome her at Heaven's Gate….

Martina had a host of adoring nieces and nephews and beloved family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Live streamed services will be available on the Geitner-Givnish Life Celebration facebook page on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. Losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. But her goodness, her caring, and her wisdom live on-like a legacy of love that will always be with you. May that love surrounds you now and bring you peace. ... In life, I know you loved her dearly, in death, you will still have that same love. I'm so sorry for your loss.
