Tribute & Message From The Family

Teresa O. Rivera (nee Ortiz), of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at the age of 93. Teresa was the beloved wife of the late Pedro Rivera; devoted mother of Maria Torres, Victor Rivera, Ana Rivera, Jose Rivera, Miguel Rivera, Gilberto Rivera, Raymon Rivera, Josefina Rivera, Carmen Rios, Betsy Rivera, Geraldo Rivera, Hector Rivera, Irma Rivera, Angel Rivera, Evelyn Rivera, and Raymon; cherished grandmother of 25; and great grandmother of 19.

On May 20th 1927 in the town of Barranquitas, community of Palo Hincado in Puerto Rico, Ms. Maria Miranda and Mr.Candido Ortiz welcomed to the world their daughter Teresa Ortiz Miranda. She was raised in a humble home with faith in God. As Teresa grew up, it was obvious she had the gift of charity. Since charity begins at home, she helped take care of her father Candido when he became ill. Teresa not only tool care of her father until his death, but also took care of her mother Maria and her mother in law with the same love.

Teresa had the Grace of Patience, Love, and Tolerance which was evident as she began to form her own family at an early age as was the custom during those days. Her children arrived and each one she received with Love beginning with : Maria, Victor, Jose, Ana Mercedes, Miguel, Gilberto, Ramon Luis, Josefina, Carmen Nilda, Betsy, Geraldo, Hector, Irma, Evelyn and Angel. Teresa and her husband Pedro gave all their Love to each of their children.

Approximately in 1973, the yearning of a better future for the family brought Teresa, her husband Pedro and their children to live in Philadelphia. There Teresa's Faith brought her to a church named La Milagrosa. As the years went by, Teresa was an active member always cooperating with the church's needs. The church of the Visitation B.V.M. being the last Parish she attended where she was a Eucharistic Minister.

The Faith she cultivated provided her with Fortitude when caring for her son Victor until his death and that of her loving husband Pedro. Adding to this the sudden and unexpected passing of her son Miguel.

Teresa suffered several health ailments throughout the years. With her Faith as her armor she would be Fortified and recovered as she continued on the mission she was called for in life. Anyone who knew Teresa, saw she had a Heart filled with love for everyone. There was always a plate of food, money and even a place to stay if ever in need of. With all of those needs was that a child by the name of Ramon came to live with the Rivera family. Pedro and Teresa gave Ramon a home and family he needed with all the other kids.

In her final years of life, Teresa suffered inconsolably the deaths of her husband Pedro and sons Victor, Miguel and Ramon which debilitated her greatly. The Love of her children was ever present. Always united they took care of her until the morning of May 24th 2020 when Teresa was called back home by her Loving God. With that she gained the Paschal Mystery of the Faith she professed throughout her life. Aside from her children, Teresa is survived by an infinite number of Grandchildren, Great Grand Children and Great Great Grandchildren.

During her last 10 years of life, Teresa shared many moments filled with Faith and Spiritual Gifts with her confessor Father Augusto Concha and Fernando Figueroa Cruz whom she loved as a son. We mourn the loss of Teresa but are consoled in knowing that she gained the Crown of Eternal Life. Teresa, a Humble woman in nature from Barranquitas of the Palo Hincado community in Puerto Rico, Sowed throughout her life and now Reaps her Blessings in Celestial Paradise.
