Tribute & Message From The Family

Edward J. Breslin, 75, passed away in June 2021.

He is survived by his nieces Maryanne Kelly-Asci (Timur) and Margaret Herbison (Gerald), nephew James Kelly (Jean), his grandnieces and nephews (Sean, KC, Mackenzie, Devan, Killian, Maclan, Maura, and Luke) and a plethora of cousins who were also his friends. He is predeceased by his parents Edward and Mary Breslin and his sister Maureen Kelly.

Ed was born in 1945 in Brooklyn NY. He graduated from St John's University and received his master's degree at the University of Notre Dame. He taught for years at La Lumiere School in Indiana, where he was the Chairman of the English Department, before returning to New York to teach at Xaverian High School. His students have gone on to become award winning actors, directors and even Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. His former students and colleagues describe him as an inspiration, their favorite teacher, a kind soul, the giant on whose shoulders we stood and a truly gentle man. His family will remember him as the man who would let a little girl stand on his feet so they could dance together, who would give help and constructive criticism when an essay or English paper was due, and who would always help paint the house or babysit the kids. He was a lover of puns and could answer any question about the use of the English language no matter how obscure.

The memorial service (not yet scheduled at this time) will not be before noon, he was not a 'mourning' person.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Xaverian High School www.xaverian.org
