Tribute & Message From The Family

Jo-Anne Mead Nardo passed away peacefully on November 8, 2021. A resident of Newtown, PA for over 33 years. Born in Queens, NY on July 4, 1935, to Austin and Katherine Mead, then came her sister Eva Dee. She grew up in Mount Kisco, NY in her early childhood. Her family then moved to Ridley Township in Delaware County where she graduated from Ridley Park High School. Highlights of her high school years were playing field hockey and the Glockenspiel for the marching band. Quite a combination!
After graduation, she went into Wilmington General Hospital School of Nursing and achieved her Registered Nurse (RN) designation. During her nursing school years in Delaware, she met the love of her life and future husband, Vincent J. Nardo. They were married on December 27, 1958, at St. Andrew's Church in Newtown. Vincent and Jo-Anne began their marriage out in Spokane, Washington while Vince was in the US Army. After serving in the US Army, they moved back to the Philadelphia area. They would soon have two children Cynthia and Christopher. Eventually their travels and careers would bring them back to Newtown. During these journeys Jo-Anne would continue to work as a nurse in many different capacities. As an operating room nurse at the Lower Bucks Hospital, she worked at Dr. Elizabeth Strathie's family practice, Buckingham Valley Nursing Home, and Chandler Hall Nursing Home. Her volunteer work was voluminous. She was past President of the Newtown Historic Association, past President of the Pickering Manor Auxiliary, volunteer at the Newtown Free Library, an active member of St Andrew's parish and was elected as the first women on Borough Council for Newtown. She loved traveling with her husband and many friends over the years. This included Italy, Ireland, Paris, Turks & Caicos, and various places in the U.S. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren, Vincent Marra, Alexandra Marra, Samantha Marra, Emily Nardo and Sophia Nardo along with her two great grandchildren, Izaiah Phillips and Maylina Lopez. She loved cows, the many cats she had over the years and certainly all the birds that would flock to her feeders. Also, her many friends were so important, so numerous, and dearly beloved.
Relatives and friends are invited to JoAnne's Life Celebration on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM and to her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA. Interment will follow in Newtown Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Pickering Manor, 226 N. Lincoln Ave. Newtown PA, 18940

Condolence & Memory Journal

I've know Joanne since the early 70's... our children were the same ages. Through the years even after I moved out of town, when I came back I would see her at a restaurant or grocery store and we would catch up on old times. In particular, I would walk my dog in Newtown Cemetery and she would come across from her home and again, we would talk about our children and our pets. What a sweet lady she was... always a smile. I will surely miss seeing her... but I know I will see her again some day. Rest in peace Joanne.
