Tribute & Message From The Family

Catherine Agnes Breslin (nee McHugh), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. She was 91 years old.

Catherine was born on March 16, 1930, in Philadelphia to the late Patrick and Catherine McHugh. She grew up in Corpus Christi Parish and was a graduate of Hallahan High School for Girls and a star cheerleader! After graduating she began working as a bookkeeper for Rosenthalls. But it was back in the neighborhood that she would meet the love of her life, James, and eventually, marry. In 1952, they moved to Mayfair to start a family and it remained their loving home throughout the next 66 years.

Detail-oriented, motivated, selfless, and strong are all words that could describe Catherine. She loved the Jersey shore, overlooking the ocean from her porch. She enjoyed making ceramics, gardening, and listening to Irish music! But above all else, Catherine will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family came above all else. Not a day went by that her home wasn't tended to and her family well-cared for and fed.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband, James F. Breslin in 2004 and daughter, Catherine Dougherty. She was the devoted mother to her children, James F. and his wife, Karen, John J. and his wife, Cindy, Brian E. Breslin, Marianne Makaila and her husband, Mark, and son-in-law, Dennis Dougherty. She was the beloved "Mom-Moms" to Dennis, Jim, Ryan, Jennifer, Katie, Michael, Matthew, Sean, Heather, Caitlyn, Mark, and Ryan; and great-grandmother to 14. She was the loving sister to Patricia Florkowski, Edward McHugh, Joseph McHugh, and the late Anna May Keen, Patrick McHugh, Teresa Dollard, Eileen McHugh, Bernard McHugh, and John McHugh; and she was the cherished and adored aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154 followed immediately by Catherine's Life Celebration service at 11:00 am.

Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Catherine's memory be made to the Archbishop Damiano School, 1145 Delsea Drive, Westville, NJ 08093.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Even though I never met Mrs. Breslin, I feel I knew her through her son John and his wife Cindy, as we were neighbors in Alaska. I corresponded with her every year in Christmas cards. She will always be in my prayers.

Marianne and family, we are so sorry to hear of your moms passing. She was a sweet lady and always smiled and waved when she saw me. My mom was born exactly one month before and also lived in Mayfair. They probably interacted and never knew it. Marianne, I will miss your smile and energetic personality. May your mom Rest In Peace. Sincerely, Michelle Angelucci and Catherine Cassentino ( St Joes Manor )

Candle

We were so sorry to hear of Cass' passing. She was truly a treasure, good friend and second Mom when we lived on Tackawanna Street. We would spend time on the front steps of our homes talking when it was to hot to stay inside just passing the time away. She would sometimes have lunch or dinner in my home. She was one of a kind and will be missed. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.
