Carolyn Pannepacker passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 after a brief illness. She had been staying with her son in the Northern Kutztown area. She was 90.
Carolyn was born in December 25, 1931 in Newtown, the youngest of three daughters of Clarence and Esther Savidge. She graduated from Council Rock High School in 1949 where she was head of the Dramatics Club. She graduated with honors from Peirce School of Business in Philadelphia in 1951.
She married Ed Long, a former high school classmate in 1951. They moved to the new community of Levittown, bought a new house and there raised their three boys. Carolyn worked part-time as a sales clerk and secretary. Ed worked in an administrative position with Pennsylvania Railroad in Philadelphia, and enjoyed playing baseball, golf and bowling with his boys.
In 1976 when their sons were grown, Carolyn and Ed divorced. At the age of 44, she set out on her own, with an apartment and a job as a typesetter with the Delaware Valley Advance, a weekly newspaper. She took up flying lessons and made solo flights to wester Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia. She enjoyed dating and saw and talked with her boys often.
In 1987 she married Dave Pannepacker, a high school classmate. They resided in Newtown, and later moved to a retirement community in Whiting, New Jersey. It was not far from her parents' cottage on Long Beach Island where she and her family had spent many happy summer vacations. Carolyn and Dave traveled around the country and Canada, and enjoyed going to the shore, airports, community events and restaurants.
Carolyn loved planes and jets, steam trains, pipe organs, kittens and cats, knitting, crocheting, making puzzles and watching golf and cheering for Tiger Woods.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Jeff Long of Northern Kutztown area, Jim Long of Wellington, Florida and Andy Long of Holland, PA. She is also survived by Jim's three children, Jim, Michelle and Becky and their kids, who are Carolyn's nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her husband, Dave Pannepacker and her sister Sarajane Dallas both of Newtown. Carolyn is also survived by Dave's sons Eric Pannepacker and his wife Nancy and their children, David and Brian, Scott Pannepacker and his wife Heidi and their children, Maia and Cormac, Dave's daughter in law, Anne Pannepacker and her children, Lauren and Lexi.
Relatives and friends are invited to Carolyn's Memorial Service on Friday, March 25 at 10:30 AM at the Swartz Givnish Funeral Home, 323 Washington Ave. Newtown, PA. Interment will be in Newtown Cemetery.
