Tribute & Message From The Family

Charles Venango passed peacefully on April 15, 2022, at 81 years old. Charles was born in Philadelphia to Mary and Charles Venango. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret (Eldred) and children: Margaret Kuonen, Mary DeMaio (Ron), Charles Jr. (Mary Kay), Anne O'Brien (Jim), and Joseph (Jennifer); 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Charles was a loving husband and father who relished time with family and friends. He spent summers with Margaret at their vacation home near Sea Isle City, NJ and together they enjoyed the beach and restaurants along the NJ coast. Charles and Margaret were dedicated Catholics and raised their children in the Church. They were deeply devoted to each other.

Charles enjoyed playing cards with friends and sitting in the sun with his dog, Bella. He loved parties, comfort food, an occasional cigar, wine, and Irish whiskey. He was a tremendous father to his children and always found new adventures for them including camping, fishing, winter sledding, and walks in the woods. He taught his children things like auto maintenance, the importance of being on time, hard work, never giving up, and devotion to family. Charles cherished his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits and enjoyed spoiling them.

Despite a tragic accident in 1981 that resulted in paralysis, Charles continued to work and provide for his family. He mentored newly injured patients on how to cope with paralysis and was often a guest speaker on spinal cord injury for medical professionals. During his years at Septa, he worked to improve the Para Transit service for people with physical challenges.

Charles was a treasure to his family, friends, and community and will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to Charles' Life Celebration on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at John F. Givnish Life Celebration Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia PA 19154. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher Church, 13301 Proctor Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19116. Interment will be held privately at the request of the Venango family.

Pop loved to tell people that they were his favorite. It was a fun game he played on us all. But The truth is he was always telling the truth. He was always so proud of his family. He would uniquely find the things about us that were important. He got to know us individually. He knew what made us tick. He genuinely cared about us and what was happening in our lives.
When he told us, all of us, that we were his favorites he meant it. The man was so full of love that every one of us were his favorite.
We love you Pop.

Hey Dad,
I'm really going to miss seeing you in the morning.
I'm going to miss doing jobs with or for you.
I'm going to miss hearing the same corny jokes again.
I'm going to miss your movie recommendation's,(when you could remember the name) then talking about it the next day.
I'm going to miss you saying just go fishing when I was stressed out.
I'm going to miss the way you treated people and always made them smile. I'm going to miss the respect your coworkers and friends showed you. I'm going to miss your videos of family gatherings, when you would cruise around with the camera hanging from your neck, straight down and still on, getting footage of your feet cruising around in your wheelchair. Priceless.
I'm going to miss working out mechanical problems together.
I'm going to miss your advice.
I'm going to miss the thoughtful and funny calls to thank my wife after making you a tasty dinner.
I'm going to miss working on your van together & you saying THE OTHER WAY! when turning the wrench even slightly in the wrong direction.
I'm going to miss your smile.
I'm going to miss being your buddy.
I'm going to miss everything that made you, YOU.
But I won't miss YOUR LOVE, because it's always in my heart.

To my Poppy, you were the heart of our family and the central figure that kept us together. I will miss cooking your favorite dishes for you with my mom and your silly jokes and stories. I’ll forever cherish the memory of one of our last visits together when you told me how proud you were of me. I pray that you watch over our family, and especially my dad, who will miss you so dearly and the time you spent together almost every day. We love you and will miss you endlessly.

POP, as I sit and reflect on all the wonderful memories of you, my eyes are filled with tears for all the things I will miss about you, but also tears of joy because you are now free of all your worldly pain . I know you're in Heaven running free and spending your time with all of your loved ones in the Glory of our Lord. I will miss your wit and the endless laughter you brought to our family. It will never be the same without you but we will carry your spirit and love for life with us forever!
We love and miss you POP!!♥

Dad, you were the best Father any child could ask for. We had so much fun - even when you worked double or triple shifts, you were full of smiles and fun. I loved the magic tricks, camping, fishing, days at Somerton swim club, impromptu BBQs and parties, holidays, Wildwood days, and that you came to my softball games. You and mom got us to church every week, gave us a great education, weddings, beautiful holidays and so much more. You taught us how to do things right and to treasure family. You are a shining example to us and we will always remember you and the love you showed us.

Although I miss you terribly, I am delighted you are with the Lord where there are no wheelchairs, doctor appointments, sickness or pain. God Bless You for all that you endured; your motivation and tenacity was unfailing. You are the best I could ask for, thanks Dad.

Uncle Charlie as he was known to my Son Joe, to me He was Charlie. He was a great man in many ways. I loved him dearly. He would always give me great advice. He was there when my son was born. Charlie and Marge were great neighbors and soon were like family to us. They were family. We last spoke to each other about a month ago. He had heard I was in the hospital, and I still have his voice message. I can't say enough about Charlie. I don't think I would be sitting with a SEPTA pension if it were not for Charlie. He passed on my Birthday and most of all Good Friday. A blessed day . Charlie you could not have picked that day, it was reserved for you by our Lord and Savior and now you have arrived to greet our Father. You now are standing in the light of God in The Presence Of The Lord. I will always think of you on April 15th and know how much you loved me and will always cherish the wonderful times we shared together with you and Marge. We share our sympathy with your family . We send prayers and condolences. There is only one thing left to say, and that is I love you. RIP Uncle Charlie. Love Frank Gigliotti and Family
