Tribute & Message From The Family

Lawrence C. McGuffin passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 24, 2022. He was 71 years old. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Anna (nee DiSandro); loving children, Lawrence (Leah), Kathleen, Bridget, and Joseph; and grandchildren, Lawrence III, and Natalie. He is also survived by his siblings, Neil, David (Ellen), Florence, Mary Helen Altimariro (Bill), Ann Mobley (Jim), Ruth Marie Karbach (George), Jean Hetzel (Ron), Elizabeth Hudnell (Bob), and Barbara Ann Schimidt (Gentil).

Larry spent his entire life helping others, mainly through his career in law enforcement. After joining the Philadelphia Police Department in 1971, he became a detective in 1985. He was assigned to Homicide in 1991, where he worked until he retired in 2006. He later worked for the Attorney General's office. Throughout his long career, he helped countless people and received several awards and commendations for bravery.

The other big chapter of his life was the time he spent at Vogt C.A. as a volunteer coach. While he helped with soccer and basketball, he spent most of his time coaching girls' softball. For more than twenty years, he introduced kids to the fun of sports and the importance of teamwork. He instilled in his players the importance of balancing hard work and having fun, and he worked tirelessly to improve the community.

Relatives and friends are invited to Larry's Life Celebration on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at John F. Givnish Life Celebration Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA. A second visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Albert the Great
Church, 212 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM followed by Larry's interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Lots of great memories of Mr. McGuffin from playing baseball at Vogt. He sacrificed a lot to teach us the game, and we all understood that and appreciated it. Rest In Peace coach.

I am so sorry to see this. I was the AO at the Attorney General's office and remember Larry as a wonderful person and a great investigator. My condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear about Larry's passing. We worked together in homicide. I had connected with a 12 year old boy battling cancer. Larry knew that I was trying to get help for his family and without asking Larry helped. He was one of the good guys. John Main
