Obituary for Joseph J. Supon, Sr.

April 25, 1936 - November 1, 2021
Langhorne, Pennsylvania | Age 85

Loving Father

Joseph James Supon Sr. went home to his Lord on Monday, Nov. 1, 2021. He was 85.
He was born on April 25, 1936, in Weston, Pa., to Anthony and Anna Supon. The second of four children, he was named after a local priest who was performing an emergency baptism after his umbilical cord came undone and he was at risk of bleeding to death. An older brother had died shortly after birth.
He graduated from Black Rock High School in 1954, where he excelled at basketball and baseball and earned the nickname "the Scrapper" for his rough style play.
In his late teens he joined the Pennsylvania Railroad as a male secretary. The railroad morphed into the Penn Central Corporation and, during his 33-year career, he rose to become Executive Vice - President of real estate at Penn Central and an avid fan of railroads.
He married his late wife Justine on Nov. 1, 1958, and joined her on what would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary. The couple moved to the Philadelphia area in 1965 with their five children, known simply as his "gang," and joined Our Lady of Grace parish in Penndel.
He retired in May of 1989 and traded his daily commute for daily walks, daily Mass, lawnmowing and gardening. He prided himself on keeping his yard neat and was extremely generous with his yearly crop of tomatoes.
With his own children grown, he became a doting grandfather to four grandchildren, renowned for taking his new "gang" for long treks through the woods and returning with four very tired, very muddy but very happy children. He enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting, lame jokes and polka dancing and, in his later years, became adept at cooking, baked ham among his specialties.
He is survived by his children: Joseph Supon Jr. of Langhorne, Pa.; Anna Marie Supon (Spivak) D.O., and her husband Steven Spivak, D.O., of Vestal, N.Y.; Marie Elise (Supon) Webb and her husband Bruce Webb of Ardmore, Ala.; Justin Supon of Washington, D.C. and Michael Supon and his partner Dennis Cianci of New Hope, Pa. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Elizabeth Spivak of Sarajevo, Bosnia; Joseph Spivak of Chicago, Ill.; Catherine Spivak of Vestal, N.Y. and Michael Spivak of Philadelphia, Pa. He is also survived by his brother, Laurence Supon of Clarks Summit, Pa. Family and friends are invited to attend his Life Celebration Thursday November 4, 2021 from 6:30PM to 8:30PM at the Dunn - Givnish Life Celebration Home 378 S. Bellevue Ave.
Langhorne. Family and friends may also call from 10:00 Am to 11:00AM on Friday at Our Lady of Grace Church, 225 Bellevue Ave., Penndel, where his funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held on Saturday Nov. 6, 2021, at 11:30 AM in Scared Heart Cemetery in Weston, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, the Family request donations to be made in memory of Joe Supon to Amigos de Jesus
