Obituary

On Friday, September 27, 2019, AeSook Chung-Posecznick, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend passed away at the age of 47.  She was born in Daejeon, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea – the second daughter of YoungSon Chung and YoungJa Kim.  She spent her childhood in the city of Iksan in the province of Jeollabuk-do. She initially studied chemistry (bachelors degree, Chonju University, 1994) and worked in environmental field services and testing, before moving to a career in education, and later computer science (master's degree, College of Staten Island, 2011).  She met her husband Alex Posecznick while they were both teaching at the same school in Korea. She immigrated to the U.S. and married him in 1999 and became a naturalized citizen in 2005. Together they raised two daughters Maya Hanmi (born in 2002) and Roxanna Chanmi (born in 2012), but she was also the mother of twin girls Katarina Haneul and Julianna Pada, who passed away in 2004.

AeSook was a kind and generous spirit who went out of her way to welcome others on every occasion.  She was usually quiet and reserved, but would sometimes reveal her fierce sense of humor when least expected.  She was spontaneous and confident; she might decide to bake brownies for neighbors on a whim, or figure out how to disassemble the kitchen sink to install a sensor motion faucet from watching YouTube videos.  She was unbelievably strong and stubborn, was very competitive when it came to boardgames, and yet always gentle and loving.  AeSook was a private person, thoughtful, compassionate and intensely dedicated to her children.

She is survived by her parents YoungSon Chung and YoungJa Kim, husband Alex, her daughters Maya Hanmi and Roxy Chanmi, her older sister SungSook Chung, her younger brother SangHoon Chung, nephews, nieces, cousins and many other friends and loved ones.
A funeral service was held at 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Korean United Church of Philadelphia at 1200 W Cheltenham Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19126.  She was buried with her daughters Katarina Haneul and Julianna Pada at Ocean View the Cemetery Beautiful in Staten Island, New York.
