West Norriton, Pennsylvania

Albert E. Momme, age 94, of West Norriton, Pennsylvania, husband of the late Rose (Zummo) Momme, passed away at his home on the morning of January 14, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Albert (Al) was born in Norristown, PA in November, 1923, the son of the late John Momme and Mary (Irons) Momme. He worked in the family produce business (Momme's Market), before enlisting in the Army Air Corp in 1942. He served in WWII in the European Theatre Operation, with the 587th Bomb Squadron of the 394th Bomb Group, serving in England, France, and Holland as an aircraft armorer, maintaining and loading bombs on the B26 Marauder. He received the following military decorations: United States Presidential Unit Citation; European, African and Middle Eastern Service Medal with Six Bronze Stars, Army Good Conduct Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then began a 49-year career starting as a Lab Technician and retiring as a Staff Quality Control Engineer with the present day Premier Refractories, located in Valley Forge.

Al was active in the community as a member of the Frank C. Parker Jr. and Son American Legion Post 901, (Commander, Recording Secretary, Historian), a player agent for West Norriton Little League Baseball, and a lifetime member of the Jefferson Fire Co. No. 1. Al received numerous awards over the years for his community service and leadership culminating in the 2012 designation of the Albert Earl Momme Bridge (located on Burnside Avenue over Stony Creek) by State Senator John Rafferty and then State Representative Mike Vereb.

In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Al enjoyed hunting, entertaining, traveling, and photography. He actively kept up with the members of the 394th Bomb Group, organizing reunions and producing newsletters. He was a passionate WWII history enthusiast resulting in three books: A Journey of a Post Historian; Biographies of the US Army Air Corp 394th Bomb Group "The Bridge Busters"; and The Chronicles of a Marauder Bomber Armorer.

Albert is survived by his son Thomas (Janet) Momme, daughter Susan (Rick) McAuliffe, and son John (Ann) Momme; grandchildren: Valerie Momme Sakr, Scott (Mary) Momme, Brad (Kathleen Mooney) Momme, Christopher (Maureen) Novitski, Michael (Josie) Novitski, Katie (Byron) Simmons, Daniel McAuliffe, James Momme; and great grandchildren: Derrick, Luke, Cadence, Declan Momme, Adaline Simmons, and several nieces and nephews.
