Obituary for Alice A. (nee Kavanagh) Warchol

April 16, 1929 - July 22, 2017
| Age 88

Alice A. (nee Kavanagh) Warchol, originally of Dalkey, County Dublin, Ireland, died quietly in her sleep on July 22, 2017. Born on April 16, 1929, she was the oldest of the ten children of Garrett and Mary (nee Davis) Kavanagh. After finishing school, Alice immigrated to London, England at age seventeen and joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the women's branch of the British Army. Shortly thereafter she met Jozef, who would be her husband of 66 years. Despite the aftermath of World War II in London and post-war rationing, Alice and Jozef had fun with family and friends and enjoyed a long romance. They were married at Brompton Oratory in London on March 29, 1951. In 1954, Alice and Jozef immigrated to the United States and settled in Norristown, PA, where they have lived for over 60 years. Alice made many friends during her life and cherished every one. She was especially thankful for her friend, Sadie Kane, who helped her in her later years. Alice enjoyed reading, knitting/crocheting, and British television. She was an Anglophile – interested especially in British Royal history and was a great admirer of Queen Elizabeth II.

Alice is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jozef, and their three children, Andrew (Patricia), Valerie Breznicky (Michael) and Joseph (Eileen). Alice has three grandchildren: Michael, Allison, and Joseph Breznicky. Her surviving siblings are Joseph (Jessie) and Barney Kavanagh and a sister, Patricia Bowen (Tony) along with many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
