Alyce Wilhemina Van Sant Eshbach, 101, died at her home in Mullica Township
on Friday October 19, 2012. Alyce was born in Atlantic City, moving to
Ocean City during her pre-school years. She graduated from Ocean City High School in 1930 before attending Pierce College. At the time of her marriage to Walter Russell Eshbach, jr she lived in Margate, Chelsea and Florida. They later moved to Margate and eventually to Linwood, raising their family in these communities. In retirement, they moved to Four Hills, Albuquerque, NM. Her husband of 58 years pre-deceased her while residing there in 1995.
She was actively engaged as a long time member and former volunteer of the Atlantic County Historical Society. She was an early member of the VanZandt International Society, member of the Mayflower descendants, member of the Cora Harper Stickney Chapter of DAR, Florida when her husband had a grove there. She was a member of the General Lafayette Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving in many offices and as chapter regent. She served on both the State and National levels of the DAR and attended many Continental Congress sessions.
Surviving are twin daughters, Faith Eshbach Rupert and husband Tom of Orlando, Florida and Susan Eshbach Heading and husband Jack of Bridgewater Virginia and daughter Joy Eshbach Roehnert and husband Hank (Maj.USAF, Ret) of Mullica Township. Five grandchildren: Jullie Heading Ellis of Olympia W A, Rhonda and Col. Fran Fierko (USA, Ret) of Orlando, Ken Heading ofKaty Tx, Tim and Jody Rupert of Seven Fields PA, Nickolas Eshbach Roehnert of Mullica Township and nine great-grandchildren; Amber and Hunter Ellis, Meghan and Austin Fierko, Kristen, Joseph and David Heading, and Joshua and Luke Rupert. She is also survived by her nephew James Barbour of Ocean City and many beloved nieces and cousins. Graveside services at the convenience of the family will be held with internment at Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be appreciated to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.
