Obituary for America (Mary) Rosina (Battista) Seppy

September 10, 1926 - October 17, 2016
Brigantine, New Jersey | Age 90

America (Mary) Rosina Seppy (née Battista), 90, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Monday October 17, 2016. Mary was born in Philadelphia, Pa on September 10, 1926 to Pasquale and Philagette Battista. It was in her beloved hometown that she met, fell in love with and married the love of her life and beloved husband of 69 years, Anthony Seppy. Shortly after starting their family, Mary and Anthony relocated to Brigantine, NJ where they owned and operated the islands first grocery store, Seppy's Market. Mary believed in the value of hard work and after closing the store following many happy, successful years, she went to work at New Jersey Tobacco where she met many new friends. She finished her career at Harrah's working in the wardrobe department. Mary loved taking care of the employees of Harrah's and their uniforms and not only knew just about everyone's name, but memorized their employee number as well and made sure she had everything ready for each person as soon as she saw them heading her way.

After retiring, Mary spent her time volunteering at the Brigantine Civic Center preparing and serving meals and at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Mary loved going to the casinos to play the slots with her girlfriends and the many Young at Heart Club trips and events that she enjoyed with Anthony and her friends. Sunday was always the best day of the week as we enjoyed family dinner and the company of one another.

Mary is survived by her cherished husband, Anthony and beloved children, Carmella (Timothy) Ginnetti, Anthony (Lori) Seppy and Rocco Seppy. Also left to treasure her memory are her grandchildren, Tina (Tod) Hart, Timothy (Jennifer) Ginnetti Jr., Jaime (Justin) Hathorn and Anthony & Joseph Seppy. Mary leaves a legacy of hard work and the pride of family to her great-grandchildren, Dylan & Andrew Hart, Luca Ginnetti and Keily Seppy. Mary was the beloved sister of Etilio Battista, lifelong best friend of Lee Ruffalo, and adored aunt to many nieces and nephews. During the final part of her journey, Mary was cared for by many visiting angels including Jay, Markell, Clare, Doreen and Peggy. Our family will be forever grateful to Mary's caregiver, Keisha Howard, who became a trusted and much loved person in her life and whose kindness and compassion can never be repaid.

At the request of the family, services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary's memory may be made to the NJ Commision of the Blind and The Community Food Bank of South Jersey.
