Obituary

Dr. Angelo Francis Macchia, husband of Mary Jane Sutch Macchia, and a resident of Attleboro Retirement Community in Langhorne, and previously of Lower Makefield Township, passed away peacefully June 1, surrounded by his family.

Angelo was born in 1921 to Camillo and Mary (Roberts) Macchia. He graduated from Hamilton High School, Trenton, NJ; he then entered Villanova College, as it was known at the time, as a pre-med student. At graduation he was the recipient of the Kolmer Medal in science. Due to the war effort, and the need for dentists, he was directed by the NAVY to enter dental school at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation from Penn in 1945, he was called to active duty to the NAVY Dental Corps. After his discharge, he decided to go back to school for a Master's of Science degree, and an internship and residency in oral surgery.

In 1955, he opened his oral surgery practice with Dr. Peter Cassalia in Levittown and practiced there for 50 years. In addition, he taught at Temple Dental School and was on the staff at Lower Bucks (now Aria Lower Bucks), Holy Redeemer, and St. Mary's hospitals.

Angelo is survived by his wife of 70 years, his children Mary Anne Maddaloni (Philip), Robert C. Macchia, Sr. (Deborah), Michael Macchia, William Macchia, Eleanor Macchia, and Michelle Callahan (Brian); 9 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Angelo is preceded in death by his two sisters, Elizabeth Speciale, and Julia Rutkowski.

Angelo's family would like to thank the staff at Attleboro Retirement Community for the tender care that they provided to Angelo during his time there.
