Obituary

Barbara B. Grimes, (nee Bean) of Plymouth Meeting, died Saturday, July 24 surrounded by her loving family, after an immensely courageous battle with prolonged illness. She was 83.
Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Grimes spent much of her childhood summers at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Free Library, where she developed a life-long love of literature and the arts. She graduated from West Catholic High School, and later earned her R. N. at Gwynedd Mercy College. While raising her family she went on to earn her B.S. in English from Gwynedd Mercy College, a M.A. in Health Education from Arcadia University, Certification from the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis, and a M.B.A. from Eastern University. She was known for her wide-ranging intellect and her nearly encyclopedic knowledge of many fields, from the medical sciences, history, literature and the arts.
Mrs. Grimes enjoyed a long and varied career as a college professor, medical industry professional, nurse, legal nurse consultant, and psychoanalyst. She remained passionate about the importance of education and had a great love for the city of Philadelphia. She was devoted to her family and to her Catholic faith, and was a long- standing member of Epiphany of our Lord Parish in Blue Bell, PA. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband and was overjoyed to attend her grandchildren's academic, sporting, and artistic events.
Mrs. Grimes will be remembered for her intellect, soft spoken eloquence, beauty, and tremendous valor. She will be forever loved and missed by her children Thomas (Christina) Grimes, Christine Grimes, Gregory (Jan) Grimes, and Jennifer (Larry) Greenley, eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and brother Ronald (RuthAnn) Bean. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Thomas J. Grimes, mother Edith I. Bean, and brother Bruce J. Bean.
