Barnett McCullough Sr., 85, of Philadelphia, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the VA hospice hospital.

Barnett McCullough Sr., was born in Piedmont, SC to John and Effie McCullough on August 12, 1933. He went to Dunbar Middle school and graduated from Dobbins AVTS High School in Philadelphia in 1953. He was a veteran of the Post Korean War and served in the Army for two years as a Military Police Officer.

He married Madelene Smith on September 10, 1961. He worked as a Fire Fighter for the City of Philadelphia for 27 years before retiring. During his years at the fire department he honed his cabinet making craftsmanship by working in the graphic arts department working mainly on award winning fire department parade floats.

After retiring he started his own carpentry and cabinet making business called Quality Carpentry. He continued his craft until his death.

He was involved in the Fire Department Valiants club. Barnett's lifelong hobby was fishing.

Barnett is preceded in death by his parents John and Effie McCullough, his brother James (Snook) McCullough and sister Barbara McCullough Brown.

Barnett is survived by his wife of 57 years Madelene Smith McCullough, his son Barnett McCullough Jr (Denise), his daughter Ronda McCullough and Karen McCullough Sharif (Omar), his sister Mozelle McCullough, his Grandchildren Langston Jackson McCullough, Gabrielle McCullough Richardson and Nadia Sharif. His Niece Brenda Brown Ward, his nephews Dale McCullough, Rossar McCullough (Claudia), his niece Beverly McCullough, his cousin Doris Donald (Sylvester) and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and close family friends the Browns.

Pallbearers will be Rossar McCullough, Justin Jackson, Junior Reuben Jackson, George Henderson, Christopher Murray and Eric T. Poole

Relatives and friends are invited to Barnett's Life Celebration on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Bibleway Free Will Baptist Church 1201 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19150.

Viewing: 9:00am – 10:00am, Funeral Service: 10:00am – 11:30am, Repass: 11:30am – 12:45pm. Interment: 2:30pm SHARP at Washington Crossing National Cemetery 830 Highland Rd. Newtown, PA 18940.
