Obituary

Bernard E. Brown Jr., was born June 11, 1947 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on August 3, 2020 at his home with friends and family by his side.

As a student in the Neshaminy School District, Bernie graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Army and, while stationed in Germany, he received formal recognition for his skills in metal fabrication and engine design.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Bernie was employed at a Subaru dealership where he became the chief mechanic. He was later employed by Team Toyota in Langhorne.

A top-notch metal fabricator, Bernie's first love was designing and building race cars. Nicknamed the "Iron Doctor," he was admired by speedway veterans and rookies alike for his ability to build a racer from the ground up. The cars he built--such as Brothers Trouble--were steady winners in New Jersey at Atco Dragway, Island Dragway, and Englishtown Dragway; in Maryland at Buds Creek Motorcross Park and Cecil County Dragway; in Pennsylvania at Maple Grove Raceway and in Florida at the Orlando Raceway.

Bernie generously shared his expertise in engine design and construction with anyone interested in cars or racing. He also encouraged speedway loving friends to practice the strong work ethic that guided him, so that they would have the time and financial resources to invest in their own cars, "do your work so you have money to play."

A member and treasurer of the Bristol Elks Lodge, Bernie was an enthusiastic pool player on a local pool team. He enjoyed social gatherings and was known for hosting cookouts where he often doubled as the grill chef. All were welcome and no one left hungry. He was also a member of Bethlehem AME Church.
Bernie was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Brown, Sr., his stepfather, Forest Bell, his beloved mother, Ruby Bell, his son, B. Earl Brown III, his sister, Stephanie Reid-Harden, and his former wife, Vermel Turner.

Bernie leaves precious memories to his daughters, Evett Brown (Adrain Tapp) of Durham, NC and Aisha Brown of Langhorne, PA. Grandchildren: Devon Brown, DeAnte Brown, Simone Tapp, Asher Tapp, Emmanuel Glasgow, Harmony Brown, and Christen Glasgow. Former wife, LaJoyce Brown, stepchildren, Colwin Williams, and Javonda Williams, and a host of step-grandchildren, relatives and friends. Friends are invited to Bernard's Life Celebration Friday August 14, 2020 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Dunn Givnish of Langhorne, 378 S. Bellevue Ave. Followed by his Funeral Service at 6:00PM. Interment is Private.
