Obituary

Betsy-Ann Rogge, 93, of Brigantine passed away on Wednesday December 21, 2016. Our dearly beloved mother, a Bellevue nurse in WW II and beyond; a lifelong soul mate of our dad; a devoted friend and nurturer of kindred souls in the community of Brigantine she so loved; a fierce advocate and generous spirit for those needing help or comfort, whose wide embrace included others who now enrich our family; a woman of strength, resilience, courage, and countless kindnesses; our family's center of gravity and mother of this and every year.
Betsy was born in Keyport, New Jersey and attended Columbia University where she met her husband, John. During WWII she earned her R.N. at Bellevue Hospital in NYC. Betsy, John and their children moved to her beloved Brigantine in 1948. They remained in Brigantine, had more children, foster children, children who stayed for a summer… then the children started going to college and Betsy returned to work and got her own degree from Glassboro State.
Betsy shared her spirit and talents with many organizations over the years, many dealing with children and medicine. She was a Girl Scout leader and Council President, a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years and a NJ Mother of the Year. She served on the boards of Bacharach Rehabilitation Center, Children's Seashore House, the American Cancer Society and the Florence Crittenton Home. She worked as a nurse or administrator for Atlantic City Medical Center, South Shore HMO and Ocean Point Nursing Home. Betsy also served her community as a member of the County Planning Board for many years and as a Republican County Committee member.
Betsy is survived by her husband of 73 years, John Arthur Rogge; her children, Mary-Lou Campbell (Bruce), Dorothy Dammer, Scott Rogge (Agnes Wilkie), Gay-Ann Settani, Nancy Lines and Lee Wolff (Robert); her foster children Leigh Elyn Overton Boyd and Lisa Overton; her grandchildren Scott Campbell (Molly), Lynne Soutter (Morgan), Robert Wolff and Alex Wolff; and 4 great-grandchildren, Colby, Kyley, Thomson and Zoey. She was predeceased by her parents Samuel DeBow Walker and Emma Walker as well as her two sisters Margaret Sterns and Mary-Lou Scarani.
Visitations will be at the Community Presbyterian Church in Brigantine from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 30 and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, December 31.
