Obituary

Bettie L. Foster of Langhorne, passed away quietly in Attleboro Nursing Home on Thursday, April 27, 2017. She was 95.

She was the beloved wife of the late Harold E. Foster, and loving mother of Judith F. Hardie, and her husband Bruce, of Bluffton SC; David E. Foster and his wife Tracy, of Newtown PA; and the late Robert Michael Foster; the cherished grandmother and great grandmother of Michael Hardie, and his wife Jenifer and their children Mikala and Tyler, of West Chester PA; Kim Diamond, and her children Cory, Brandon and Riley, of Levittown PA; Michelle Byrne, and her husband Michael, and children Matthew and Madison, of Newtown PA; and Drew Foster and his partner Jennifer Gentile, of Allentown PA.

Born in Easton MD to W. Willis and Elizabeth Laing, she and her family moved to Buselton PA when her grandfather had a stroke and her mother and father came up to help with the farm. She moved to San Diego following her wedding to be with her new husband who was stationed there during WWII. After the war they returned to PA and bought a home in Andalusia PA, and eventually moving to Langhorne where she has been a resident for almost 60 years.

Prior to her marriage she was a telephone operator at the Budd Co. in Philadelphia PA. Although primarily a homemaker while raising her children, she was active in the PTA, both Boy and Girl Scouts, and church Youth Group. After her children were grown she was employed for many years by First National Bank and Trust Co. of Newtown, from where she retired. In retirement she devoted much of her life in leadership roles in various groups, as President of the Langhorne United Methodist Church Women's Society, Royal Matron of Rose Croix Court of the Amaranth, and Chaplain of the Four Lanes End Garden Club, serving her church, her community and her family with distinction and grace. She was a faithful member of the Langhorne United Methodist Church for over 60 years, as well as participating and serving on the worship committee of the Attleboro Sunday worship service.

Bettie was known for her kindness and generosity to all who had the privilege to meet her. She was a gentle person, never known to say a disparaging word to anyone. She will be sorely missed.
