Carl J. Durr of Forest Grove completed his 86 year journey on June 5,2018 with the loving care at Pickering Manor, Newtown. Carl was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on July 5,1931,the son of the late John C.Durr and Florence Durr (nee Miller). Carl was born with undeveloped hip sockets and spent most of his childhood in and out of Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia. With the expertise of the doctors he was able to walk and live a full life. Carl joined the Navy in 1951, served on the U.S.S. Mellette and was honorably discharged in 1952 due to some issues still left with his legs. Returning home he went to work at J.E Caldwell & Co. Philadelphia where he apprenticed as a hand engraver. Carl married June in 1959 and they settled in Forest Grove in 1961 where he owned and operated the general store along with his jewelry store and raised their two girls. In 1971 he purchased the C.H. Bunting jewelry store in Newtown Borough where he served customers and the community until 1998. Carl became a Mason in 1954 and was a member of Jerusalem Lodge No. 506, Past High Priest in 1961 of Abington Royal Arch Chapter #245, Life member of Kensington -Kadosh Commandery No. 54 and received Legion of Honor award at the Chapel of Four Chaplains in 1981. Carl joined LuLu Temple in 1972 and was a member of the motor unit , Lenape Shrine Club, helped form the Klownz unit and was president of the Mid-Atlantic Shrine Clown Association. When he retired from The Newtown Jewelers in 1998 he started his Edsel restorations . He was a member of The International Edsel Club, Keystone Edsel Club along with The Historic Police Car Honor Guard and traveled to many car shows.

Carl is preceded in death by his wife , June (nee Weiss), Carl is survived by Cheryl Smith(Bill), Cynthia Jackson(Ted), four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.He touched everyone who knew him with his sense of humor, love for life, and his huge smile.

Relatives and friends are invited to Carl's Memorial Life Celebration at 1p.m. Sunday June 24, at The Swartz Givnish Funeral Home,323 Washington Ave, Newtown.
