Obituary

Catherine M. "Cass" Iannacone, passed away on Saturday September 11th 2021 at the age of 78. Cass was the loving wife of the late Joseph S. Iannacone Jr. for 39 years, and the caring mother to Joseph T. Iannacone (Doreen), Elizabeth M. Iannacone, Kathleen M. Stafford (James), and John M. Iannacone (Leanne). Cass will also be greatly missed by her siblings Anna Shaw, Edmund Pollitt, James Pollitt, and the late Margie Barnes. Cass leaves behind an impressive legacy in her thirteen grandchildren; Brittni Brown (Patrick), Cara Iannacone, Erin Gola (Michael), Joey Iannacone, Becky Iannacone, Nettie Iannacone, Maria Iannacone, Abby Iannacone, Matt Iannacone, Nick Iannacone, Michael Stafford, Eric Stafford, Jessica Stafford, and great grandchildren Lucas Brown, Landon Brown, and Lyla Brown.

Cass was born in South Philadelphia to the late Edmund Pollitt and Elizabeth (nee Amendt). She attended Maria Goretti High School for Girls; class of 1961. After high school, she married her neighbor from across the street; the late Joseph S. Iannacone Jr.

In 1973, Cass and Joe moved their growing family from South Philadelphia to Northeast Philadelphia, and put down their roots in the Parkwood neighborhood. Cass was a longtime parishioner of St. Anselm Catholic Church in Parkwood. She was known as "Miss Cass" by all her friends at church.

Cass will be remembered for her love of cooking, and sharing a meal with her friends and family. She always had company over for Sunday dinners, holidays, and birthdays. Her roast and homemade red gravy (not sauce) were her specialties. "Did ya eat yet?" was a phrase often asked by Cass.

Cass was a very accomplished amateur seamstress. She would mend the hem lines for her children's uniforms, fix torn clothes, and diligently stitch every Boy Scout Merrit badge onto their uniforms. Cass was often spotted under her sewing lamp working on a pile of clothes that needed mending.

Relatives and friends are invited to Cass's Life Celebration visitation on Sunday September 19th at the John F. Givnish funeral home from 6-8PM and on Monday September 20th from 9AM-10:15AM with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11AM at St. Anselm Catholic Church (12670 Dunks Ferry Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154); interment at Resurrection cemetery.
