Obituary for Charles E. Light, Jr.

September 22, 2016

Charles E. Light, Jr., age 91, died peacefully on September 22, 2016 at Attleboro Nursing and Rehab Center in Langhorne, PA after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Connellsville, PA to Charles and Marie Light, Charles Jr. graduated from Connellsville High School. After high school, Charles served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-5 where he was awarded several medals. Charles loved the music of the day and played the trumpet in a band that entertained the troops during his enlistment. After the war ended, Charles graduated from a trade school where he learned the skill of watch making and worked for a local jewelry store. Charles married Ruth Ann Sheraw in 1953 and moved from western PA to Bucks County where they raised their two daughters. Charles worked in the aerospace industry and attended Rider College. He was a member of the Langhorne United Methodist Church and volunteered his time to the Langhorne Manor Borough Council for several years. Charles enjoyed a competitive game of tennis and played golf with a group of good friends affectionately called "the Hill Avenue Duffers". He loved a good laugh, eating chocolate in any form, fixing anything that was broken, and working in the yard with his beloved dog. In his later years, he enjoyed spending the winter in Florida and visiting with extended family. He is loved by his wife and daughters and will be deeply missed.

Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Ann Light of Langhorne, PA; two daughters, Susan (John) Walerski of Yardville, NJ and Jennifer (Thomas) Collins of Feasterville, PA; and three grandchildren, Megan Bosch, Sara Collins, and Thomas Collins, Jr.

Special thanks to all of the staff at Attleboro who cared for Charles. We are grateful.

A private interment will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
