Obituary

Charles J. "Chickie" Carr, 86, died on July 28, 2021 at River's Edge Nursing Home. He was born February 11, 1935 in Philadelphia to the late Charles and the late Eleanor Carr (nee – Maloney). Chickie is the beloved husband of Theresa "Terry" Carr (nee – Mianante); brother of the late Nancy Kennen and the late Claire Campbell; he is also survived by a loving extended family and many friends.

Chickie was raised and educated in Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. He answered the call to serve his country at age 21 when he joined the United States Army and was then stationed in Texas as a member of the Military Police. After receiving an honorable discharge, Chickie returned home and would spend the majority of his working years as a bartender and manager for esteemed local establishments such as the Hoffbrau, Inflight, and The Old Mill House. Later in life he would spend some time driving for Philadelphia Flower Company.

Chickie and his wife Terri were married June 24, 1988 at St. Anselm's Church; the two would share more than 30 years of married bliss. Chickie was fun, easy-going, and was unbothered by any difficulties in life that presented themselves to him. He was a diehard Philadelphia sports fan rooting for the Eagles and the Philles alongside the perennial favorites, Penn State and Notre Dame. Chickie's passion for music and fun-loving attitude was on full display when he performed with the legendary Reilly Raider's Drum and Bugle Corps – of course playing both the bugle and the drums as needed, skills which he obtained early in life. In his free time, Chickie could be found at any and all of the local country clubs enjoying a round of golf, and the family always enjoyed vacationing in Atlantic City and Wildwood.

Relatives and friends are invited to Chickie's Life Celebration on Wednesday August 4, 2021 beginning at 10:00 A.M. at and Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at his parish church of St. Anselm, located at 12670 Dunks Ferry Road, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19154. Interment will be private.
