May 10, 2020

Damascene L. M Pierre was born on January 28, 1930 in the town of
Mirebalais, Haiti, to the late Joseph Camille Pierre of Jacmel, and
Delcarme Celestin Pierre of Mirebalais.
He was the 10th of eleven children: Hezione, Joseph Camille Jr.,
Duquesne, Medecianne, Kivranie, Carmelite, Flaxman, Miraclide,
Miraculaise and Orphilia.
He completed his primary education under the direction of his father and
mentor who was the prefecture of schools in the town of Mirebalais. He
then moved to Port-au-Prince where he pursued his secondary education at Petit College Saint Martial.
In 1946, he met Viergella Rose Romain at Pastor Cenopha's Baptist
Church La Croisade, where they were both members of the youth ministry. They later married on December, 29th 1951. From this union, they had Emanuel Lucner, Yolette, Jocelyne, Simon, Michel, Evelyne, Mireille, Margarette, Daniel and Damascene Jr.
In 1967, he left Haiti to settle in the United States. He then soon sent for his wife and kids and they resided in Lumberville, Pennsylvania until they
moved to Philadelphia in the summer of 1970. He was very supportive of
his family and was a very caring, unselfish person who also helped others that he knew achieve their dreams. He helped them find jobs and housing. When folks arrived from Haiti, he was always willing to take them to Doylestown, Warminster, and Lansdale for job opportunities. During the 1980's and 1990's, he got involved in Real Estate and provided directions and assistance, especially to Haitians, in real estate purchases and rental transactions.
He and his wife were both members of the Haitian Evangelical Baptist
Church where he also was a member of the choir. His wife Viergella
passed away in December of 2000, after a long illness.
