Obituary

David Bliss Wylie went home to be with Christ in glory on July 6, 2019. David was born at home during a blizzard on February 9, 1933, in Germantown, PA, to Harold J. and Mildred (Harvey) Wylie. He attended the Edwin Fitler Grammar School and graduated from Germantown High School in 1951. David worked for Penn Mutual Company before entering the Army during the Korean War. David served in the Army from 1953-1955 and came to faith in Christ in 1953 through the witness of an Army chaplain at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. David worked for Tasty Baking Company from 1955-1975, rising to the position of Personnel Manager, and earned a BBA from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business in 1962. The Lord called David to study for full-time Christian service in 1975 and he graduated from Reformed Episcopal Seminary in 1978. David served as Executive Director of the American Scripture Gift Mission from 1979-1985. David's lifelong love for Vermont – from childhood summers with his maternal grandfather, Hiland Bliss Harvey, in Cabot and on Lake Willoughby – drew him to open Cornerstone Bookshop in St. Johnsbury, VT, in 1985. David retired to Gwynedd, PA, in 1998 and moved to Rydal Park, Abington, in 2004. David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and niece Lisa Wylie. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Wylie, and nephews Steven (Barbara), Kendall (Pamela), and Mark (Hiroko) Wylie. Also surviving are great nieces and nephews Heather (Jonathan) Mills, Travis, Scottie and Melanie. David loved classical music, especially Brahms, and patronized the Philadelphia Orchestra beginning in 1955 (with Conductor Eugene Ormandy). David's love for Christ was reflected in his great passion for disciplining young believers to build them up in faith and godliness. He maintained close friendships for decades with many of those he discipled. He was active as a layman serving in many churches such as Tenth Presbyterian (Philadelphia), Maple Glen Bible Fellowship, and Cornerstone Orthodox Presbyterian (Ambler). David's favorite books were The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination by Lorraine Boettner, and The Old Paths and The Upper Room by J. C. Ryle. David's favorite hymn was "Abide with Me," and his favorite Bible verse was Psalm 30:5, "[God's] anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning."

Relatives and friends are invited to share in David's Life Celebration on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11AM at Rydal Park Retirement Community 1515 The Fairway, Jenkintown, PA 19046.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Samaritan's Purse Disaster Relief, https://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/crisis-and-disaster-response/, in David's memory would be greatly appreciated.
