Donald E. Abell, 97 of Newtown, PA passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021. Preceded in death by his loving wife Geraldine (Sivori) and father of Lynn Abell and Peter (Christine) Abell.

Don was born in Pitcairn, PA on October 20, 1924, to George Lester and Erma (Coleman) Abell and brother to George Lester Jr. Don started his engineering education at Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT) and later joined the naval officer training program which took him to several other universities before starting his service in WWII. During the war he made three round trips across the Pacific ferrying troops and supplies back to the US, safely. He completed his BS in engineering at CIT after the war in 1946.

Don started his engineering career at Westinghouse in Buffalo, NY. One of his first projects took him abroad to France as part of the larger effort to rebuild Western Europe under the Marshall Plan. Throughout his professional career his work took him to all parts of the globe including Mexico, India, many countries in Europe and Japan.

He met the love of his life, Geraldine, in 1955. They married in 1957 and started their family. He continued his education and received his MBA from the University of Buffalo. Don left Westinghouse in 1976 to become Vice President of Engineering at Alvey Inc. and the family moved to Chesterfield, MO. While at Alvey, he was instrumental in the development of the Accuglide Accumulation Conveyor which remains a workhorse system for many warehouses. In retirement, he worked part time as a consultant and expert witness.

Outside of work, Don volunteered on many projects for his church and other charitable organizations. He had a life-long love of music which began with his study of the trumpet and piano in his youth and throughout the rest of his life. He enjoyed singing and lent his beautiful baritone voice to many a fortunate church choir. He and Geraldine took numerous cruises and traveled the world together. Don was a Bridge Grand Master and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

In 2013, Don and Geraldine moved to Pennswood Village in Newtown, PA where he continued singing in various musical productions, volunteering at church, and playing bridge.
