Obituary for Doris Bell

June 7, 2017
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Doris Bell, life-long Philadelphia resident, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend and neighbor passed away in her own home the evening of June 7, 2017 at the age of ninety-six.

Doris (Dora) Braverman, arrived September 5, 1920, the youngest of eight children born to New York City transplants, Elizabeth Dworin, seamstress, teacher and lacemaker and electrician Harry Braverman, who wired the Vienna Opera House. It was an enlightened and lively home where everyone was drawn and welcomed.

Doris married the entrepreneurial actor David Bell in 1941 and together they raised three daughters, travelled extensively and took care of many people. They were married for 56 years when her husband succumbed to cancer.

Beautiful, warm and exuberant, she pulled everyone in with her song and laughter. Doris adored cooing to babies and reading to young children. Painting was a treasured hobby, and at 94, much to her pleasure and surprise, she sold a large painting! Always on the move, pretty and vivacious, she looked decades younger, even into her nineties.

Doris is survived by her three daughters, Lois, Sandi and Lisa (David Baker), her two granddaughters Alix and Haley Genevieve, and her great-granddaughter Mallory Davis Ricci, daughter to her late grandson, Adam Jan Perry. She was and always will be, unforgettable.

A Shiva will be held to honor her memory, this Sunday, June 18, from 5 pm - 8 pm at her residence: 2401 Pennsylvania Ave (18B36) (215)232-1812
