Obituary

Dorothy Denick (nee Kinsey) of East Norriton, passed away peacefully on Monday September 23, with her family by her side. She was 90 years old. Born July 5, 1929 in Hazelton, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (nee Hollis) Kinsey, and the beloved wife of the late Joseph Denick, Sr.

Dottie was born in Hazelton, Pa. Later, family moved to lower providence, then to Schwenksville.

She was interested in music at an early age, so her father bought her an accordion, which she took lessons on and loved.

She loved country music and was introduced to her husband, Joseph, through a mutual friend. They were both playing in different bands, but got together and started playing as a country duo..

As their sons were born, they were each brought into the band. First, Joey, who started at the age of nine, joined the band playing drums. Then, Dennis, who started playing bass professionally with the band at the age of seven. As soon as the youngest, Kevin was big enough to hold the tambourine, he also was brought into the band, later playing clarinet and drums. She was very proud of all her sons.

The band was called the 5 D'S. They were very popular in the area, playing weddings and banquets almost every weekend, until they retired in the late 80"s.
Dottie was also an avid animal lover. In her late teens she could be seen riding around in her Buick convertible with her pet lamb riding "shotgun".
She also loved the casino. She could be found weekly on a casino bus. She loved the one armed bandits, as well as all the glitz.

She had a very colorful personality, always wanting to sparkle. Her clothes were very bright and filled with sequins. She could be known as the Rhinestone Cowgirl.

Now Dottie is reunited with Joseph and all her pets. Hopefully, playing in a big country band in Heaven.

Dottie, you will be missed!

Dorothy is survived by her three sons, Joseph Denick Jr., Dr. Dennis Denick and his wife Janet, and Kevin Denick and his wife Nancy, three grandchildren; Dr. Stephanie Miller and her husband Michael, Ian Denick and Tasha Denick. She was preceded in death by her sister Rose Yothers and three brothers; Walter, Jr., Robert and Richard Kinsey.

Relatives and friends are invited to share in Dorothy's Life Celebration on Tuesday October 1, from 9:30 to 10:50 AM, followed by her funeral service at 11 AM, at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike, 610-277-7000. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
