Earl Nelson Arms "Nelson" of Warminster, Pa. passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 at his home. He was 93 years old.

Born in the coal mining region of Buchanan County, Virginia in 1926, he grew up in Mathews County, Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay where farming, fishing, and shipbuilding were most popular. Nelson was the older brother of two younger sisters who both predeceased him. He married his beloved wife Dorothy K Goss in Philadelphia in 1952 who predeceased him in 2011.

He was the father of two children, Von Schwartz (married to Steven) living in New Jersey and Gregory A. Arms (married to Alice) living in South Carolina, the loving grandfather of seven, Kristin Mann, Elizabeth Green, Candice Ryann Schwartz, Jennifer Arms Hamilton , Kathryn Arms Sorgenstein, James Michael Schwartz, Maggie Arms. Also surviving are six great grandchildren, Jonathan, Brandon, Ashleigh, Riley, Teddy, Sloane.

Nelson had a 42-year US military career including: joining the MERCHANT MARINES in spring 1944, shipped out from Newport News, VA in a 100-ship convoy to Europe as part of the war supplies effort.

He was drafted into the US ARMY in 1949 serving in the occupation of Japan after WWII; he then enlisted into the US NAVY in 1951 serving aboard the USS Macon for four years on naval patrols worldwide. After that, he joined the US COAST GUARD RESERVES in 1955 advancing to the rank of Chief Petty Officer until retiring in 1986.

Nelson had a 45 year professional career in commercial construction. He graduated Drexel University with an associate certificate.

He was employed by several leading construction firms in the Greater Philadelphia area and retired from GILBANE CONSTRUCTION in 1993. He supervised the building of over 20 commercial properties including: Fisher & Porter and Honeywell in Warminster, PA; hotels in Atlantic City, NJ; retirement homes in Pennsylvania; and state prisons in New Jersey.

He was a lifelong member of Lehman Memorial United Methodist Church in Hatboro, Pa where he served as head usher for many years and a Mason belonging to the W.K. Bray Lodge #410, Hatboro.

Funeral Services will be held privately for immediate family members with a Memorial Service being held at a later date.
