Obituary

Elmer (Bud) H. Quay of Eagleville, PA. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday June 11, 2018. He was 95 years old.

Born to Ruth and Elmer Quay on July 31, 1922, Elmer was known to his family as "Bud", the nickname his mother gave him as a young child. Bud was raised in Phila-delphia PA, and Graduated from Upper Merion high school in 1940. Shortly after grad-uation, he became a Machinist Apprentice with the E.G. Budd Company where he trained and worked until the bombing of Pearl Harbor when he and his friends decided to enlist. Elmer was denied entry due to his vision and he and all tradesmen were given a deferment as they were needed for the war effort at home. When war broke out against Japan and Germany he decided to give up his deferment for tradesmen and enter through voluntary induction. An old boss from the Budd Company suggested the Navy as he was a Navy man and took Elmer to see the recruiter. Because of his Machinist training the recruiter suggested he join the SEABEES. He was stationed in Hawaii on the island of Oahu until the war ended and he was assigned to shore duty in his hometown of Philadelphia until he was discharged in April 1946. With his Navy career behind him, he went back to the Budd Company, and worked at several other machinist jobs until he started working for Peco Electric in 1948. He remained there until 1976 when he took early retirement. He worked part-time at Spring Garden College teaching Machine Shop Math after retirement.

He was a man with a smile and kind word for everyone he met.

He was honest and honorable and had great love for his family and took pride in their accomplishments. He enjoyed helping others and was involved in many activities and hobbies including woodworking, dancing, being an active member and deacon at his church, Scoutmaster and volunteering for Aid for Friends.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley D Quay

His Children: Andrew Quay, and his wife Kathy of Marietta, South Carolina, Stephen Quay and Timothy Quay both of London UK, Skye Pursel and her husband Scott of North Coventry, Pa, and Lantz Mearkle of Boyertown, PA.
