Obituary

Ethel Quarles, a long time resident of Penns Park, PA., peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 24, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born on June 15, 1928. She was educated at the former Newtown High School, now known as Council Rock High School.

During her life's journey she married John Quarles and celebrated 68 years of marriage on June 3, 2018. Ethel's desire was to be the world's best wife and mother. Her desire was fulfilled through her marriage to John and the birth of her 8 children which included two sets of twins, Christine and Chris and Don and Donna.

Ethel was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and canning with her husband and two daughters. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She put her heart and soul into being the best wife, mother and grandmother , thus fulfilling her lifelong goal. Ethel was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Ethel attended services at the Mount Gilead AME Church, (now known as Mount Gilead Community Church), where her brother the late Bill Hopkins and sister in law the late Mildred Hopkins, were caretakers for many years. After she became ill and unable to attend the services, she would volunteer to make sandwiches for refreshments. Ethel was a recipient of the Mount Gilead Community Church Good Samaritan award in June 2017.

Ethel was the daughter of the late Charles and Ada Hopkins. In addition to her parents she was predeceased in death by her son, Bobby Hopkins. Ethel's memory will be cherished and forever remembered by her loving husband John Quarles, Sr; sons, John, Jr. (Theresa) of Bristol; Christopher of Glennside; Don of Penns Park; Bruce (Beverly) of Bedminister; Chuck of Penns Park; daughters, Donna and Christine Quarles. She was the loving "Nanny" of 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Swartz Givnish Funeral Home, 323 Washington Ave., Newtown, PA 18940 with calling hours from 10 to 12 Noon and a repass to follow on Thursday at Macedonia Baptist church, 218 N. State Street, Newtown, PA. Interment will be private for the family at Mount Gilead Community Church Cemetery, Holicong, PA. The. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Mount Gilead Community Church.
