Obituary for Eugene "Gene" Weichman

May 7, 2018
Buckingham, Pennsylvania

Eugene "Gene" Weichman, of Buckingham, passed away surrounded by love on May 7, 2018, at the age of 86. Gene was predeceased by his parents, Kathryn and Edward Weichman, and his brother Gerald Weichman. He is survived by the love of his life of 44 years, Marilyn Hutchinson Weichman. Gene was the loving father of four children; Kathryn Weichman Markloff (John), Meredith Weichman Gapsis (Ed), Nancy Faye (Bill), and Jessie Martin. Gene delighted in and will be greatly missed by his five grandchildren and one great grandchild. In recent years he was particularly grateful for the presence of Abby, Jake, and Evie in his daily life.

Gene was born and raised in the Bronx. Following high school graduation, Gene worked in the photography department for JC Penny in NYC. He then returned to school to prepare for a career in credit management and accounting. Gene and Marilyn met in Manhattan and began their married life in Somerset, NJ. The young couple moved to the Doylestown area in 1975 and bought their starter home in Buckingham, where they raised their family and still reside.

Gene, a Pisces, was drawn to water his entire life. He grew up spending summers on Long Island Sound and built his own boat. Later, he surprised his young daughters, showing up at home with a dilapidated sail boat, which he refurbished in the backyard and sailed at Peace Valley Park. and Gull Pond in Wellfleet. Gene spent summers with extended family on the beaches of Cape Cod, Mass. He looked forward to participating in the beach clean up at the beginning of each season. Gene had a strong belief in service. He was the president of the Durham Village Residents Association for over 25 years, served as a local Judge of Elections, volunteered for the Red Cross, and served as a deacon at Doylestown Presbyterian Church. He had a work ethic second to none, continuing to work until he was 80 years of age. Gene was one of a kind. He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his outgoing personality, generous heart, vast knowledge of useless facts, and unforgettable laugh.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs at Neshaminy Manor and Caring Hospice for the competent and compassionate care they provided to Gene over the last few months.

A memorial service will be held at Doylestown Presbyterian Church on Friday May 25th at 2PM. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service. Interment at Doylestown Cemetery will immediately follow the service, after which, there will be a reception at the church.
