Obituary

Evelyn V. Atwell (nee Calhoun) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, November 1, 2021. She was 94.

Born in Norristown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Florence Calhoun, beloved wife to the late Robert J. Atwell, Sr., mother to the late Robert J. Atwell, Jr., and great-grandmother to the late Cassie Bowes and Kimberlin Humphrey-Kiger. She was also the last surviving sibling to Alice, Honey, Bill, Lester, and Ed.

Evelyn is survived by her loving children; Evelyn Joann Cousin (Jim), Hazel Shusterman (Sid), Tom Stearne (Mary), Bill Atwell (Beth), Susan Oscilowski (Fran), Karen Marenbach (Al), Teresa O'Rourke (Michael), David Atwell (Larissa), Ryan Atwell, Maureen Brinsfield (Jeff), as well as 47 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Evelyn met her future husband and the love of her life Bob while roller skating, and the devoted couple enjoyed this recreation throughout their years together at the Cornwell Skating Rink. During her years living in Olney, she became a Eucharistic Minister at Incarnation Church, something she was proud of. Evelyn enjoyed her time bowling in different leagues, where she was always impressing her teammates and others. She also enjoyed a good game of BINGO, continuing to play into her late 80's. But her most cherished pastime was camping with her beloved husband, family, and eventually her children's families at Beaver Valley Campground--her "Happy Place" since 1976. Spending time there and making new friends along the way became a family tradition which has endured until the present.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 9:30 AM until her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Katherine of Siena Church, 9700 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19114. Her interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society at https://www.cancer.org, the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org , or a charity of your choice.
