Obituary

OPPMAN

Francis J. Oppman Jr., 76, of Abington Township, Pennsylvania, entered into eternal rest as he peacefully passed away on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020. Fran was a loyal friend with a big heart and an even bigger sense of humor.
He was born in Philadelphia on July 18, 1943 to the late Fritz and Gladys Oppman and will be deeply missed by his one and only dearest sister, Janet. He was the beloved, loving husband, of 42 years, to Frances Marchesani and the proud, devoted father of Frances J. aka Francie Iannuzzi (Philip). He was also blessed with, and deeply honored by his large extended family and many longtime friends.
Fran grew up in the Frankford section of Philadelphia where he attended Smedley and James J. Sullivan elementary schools, Harding Jr. High School, and graduated from Frankford High School in 1960. He still enjoyed getting together every year with his fellow Frankford graduates, particularly in the summer at the Crab Trap in Somers Point, NJ.
Fran served honorably with the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. He was stationed in Texas and South Vietnam. He was very dedicated and proud of all things Veteran. He always took off and observed Veteran's Day by doing something special. Fran worked as a production coordinator for O.P Schuman & Sons where he retired after 40 years; and again where he made and maintained many very deep friendships.
Fran was a devoted sports enthusiast. Nothing brought him more excitement and joy then watching and critiquing a sporting event; especially with one or more of his friends most notably Baseball Bob. While most loyal to the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers and Villanova Wildcats, Fran's knowledge and interests in virtually all sports (tennis, boxing, soccer, golf etc.) was second to none.
When Fran wasn't watching sports, he enjoyed playing pinochle with all his beloved, cherish partners and fiddling with the Bat Mobile as he chilled out with his wonderful neighbors; with whom he was so proudly grateful. One of his all-time favorite things to do was entertaining his family and friends.
Fran was happiest down in his man cave with the TV and music going strong and eating his go to meal of a cheesesteak with extra fried onions. He very much loved and was renowned for his hat collection, Pac Man machines, and his large Hess Truck collection that he displayed annually. Fran was a friend to all animals big and small and enjoyed lounging on the back deck where he would often be found tending to the birds.
It doesn't matter what you knew him by: Fran the Man, Mr. Fran, He Fran, The Franchise, Uncle Fran, he will always be known as The Gentleman.
Relatives and friends are encouraged to offer words of comfort and share your memories of Fran. A Life Celebration memorial service and United States Air Force Honors will be held at a later date.
