Obituary

Francis Medford Smith, 73, Of Brigantine, NJ entered into rest on Thursday, April 20, 2017 in Naples, FL surrounded by his loving family. Born in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Francis and Agnes (Gavin) Smith. He was the devoted husband of Theresa (Pohlig) Smith whom he married on Nov 2, 2003.

Francis worked for INA as a computer programmer in Philadelphia following which he took employment with Cigna also as a programmer. He worked for Cigna for over 30 years and in time moved into upper management working in both their Philadelphia and Voorhees, NJ locations. Francis honorably served his country in the U.S. Army reserve during the Vietnam War and during his service he received the commendation as a sharpshooter. Francis was a member of the Brigantine Elk's, was on the Mariner's Cove Board of Directors, and volunteered as the bus driver for the seniors of Brigantine. He also had many hobbies that he enjoyed such as sailing, traveling, running, playing Bocce and pickle ball and doing his annual Polar Bear Plunge. What most people will remember about Francis is he instilled values of love, patience, humor and that he was a beach person in every sense of the word.

Francis will be missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife; Theresa Smith, daughters; Corey Smith, Jennifer Smith, Meghan Smith, Madison (Steven) Panico, Christa (Eric) Hahn, sons; Robert (Mary Ellen) Panico Jr., Ryan David, grandchildren; Lindsay Smith, Averi Smith, Robert Panico III, Evan Hahn, Jacqueline Panico, Emily Hahn, Jordyn Panico, sisters; Marion (Richard) Keenan, Margaret (Walter) Sgrignuoli, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Francis's Life Celebration Mass of Christian Burial on Friday May 12, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 331 8th Street South, Brigantine, NJ 08203. A receiving will be held at the church from 9:30am to 10:50am with mass to follow.
