Obituary for Francis W. Ford

June 22, 2021
Doylestown, Pennsylvania

FORD, Francis William, MD, age 75, formerly of Doylestown, passed away Tuesday, June 22nd at home. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's Preparatory School in 1964 and received his BS from St. Joseph's University in 1968. Francis went on to receive his Medical Degree from Temple University in 1972, and fulfilled his residency program in General Surgery at Abington Hospital in 1976. He served in the Army from 1976 to 1978 as a physician. Francis was a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He was also a member of the Bucks County Medical Society and served as the President of the Medical Staff at Doylestown Hospital. After completing his service for the Army, Francis returned to Doylestown to join the private practice of longtime friend and colleague Dr. Joseph Curci, where he continued a successful surgical practice for 26 years until retiring in 2004. Francis considered it a privilege to serve his community and took his time to give individual care to each of his patients. He was an avid golfer and loved playing at the Doylestown Country Club, where he and his wife were members for 32 years. When he wasn't golfing, Francis found great joy in spending time with his family, particularly his 6 grandchildren. He loved traveling with his family and friends. Francis was known for his many talents, which included being an expert at getting stains out of his golf shirts, giving extensive explanations to simple questions, acquiring useless facts and information, and stubbing his toe on a regular basis. He had a hole in one at Somerton Springs golf course in 1971 and had been swinging for the next one ever since. Francis was affectionately known as "Papa Bear" by his two daughters and "Pop-Pop" by his grandchildren and exemplified what it meant to be a gentle, kind, and loving soul. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude Harkins and Francis Ford. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Linda Ford; daughters, Courtney Crowley and Caitlin Braun and their husbands Benjamin Crowley and Peter Braun; grandchildren, Francis James, Shannon Olivia, Rory Patrick, Owen Michael, Kieran Robert, Nolan August; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends are invited to Francis' Life Celebration, Wednesday, June 30th from 10:30 to 11:30am at the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe , 5194 Cold Spring Creamery Road, Doylestown, PA 18902. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30am. Interment will be private.
