Obituary for Frederick W. Crown, Jr.

June 18, 2017

Frederick W Crown Jr. passed away at the age of 70 on June 18, 2017.

Fred was born in Philadelphia on April 8, 1947 to Frederick and Catharine Crown. He was a graduate of St. Leo School and Fr. Judge High School. He served in the Army Reserves and through the years pursued several professions, most recently as a computer consultant in software systems.

He had a great curiosity about many things and often pursued them as hobbies.  He usually pursued his interests to considerable depth. Photography probably represented his greatest interest. Fred became an accomplished photographer both in technical understanding but also in developing an artistic sense. He could photograph a caterpillar that would delight an entomologist with its attention to detail but would also satisfy the artist with its attention to background and pattern.
Fred loved adventure. This was well represented by his days as a scuba diver, kayaker and his love of fast cars and motorcycles. He was a member of the Black Sheep Motorcycle Club and enjoyed group rides on Sundays through the Pennsylvania and New Jersey countryside.

In recent years, one of his great pleasures was spending time with his dog, Travis, who was adopted through a Labrador rescue group. Travis and Fred went regularly to the Core Creek Dog Park so that Travis could socialize with the other dogs. Of course, this gave Fred a great opportunity to socialize with the other dog owners and led to the formation of the Core Creek Morning Doggers group.

He had an encyclopedic knowledge about important global issues. His grasp of issues embraced climate change, health care, Middle East politics among others. Although his knowledge had considerable depth, he was not rigid and would change his opinions when presented with alternative more credible information.

Fred lived in Bensalem and had a loving family. He is survived by his wife, Christine Hoffman, his sister Mary Crown Jacquette, 10 Nieces and Nephews (Amanda Jacquette Fisher, James Crown, Jr, Fredrick Crown, Christopher Crown, Daniel Crown, Erik Jacobs, Kristina Sundin, Nicholas Sundin, Matthew Carroll, Elinore Carroll) and 8 Great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Catharine Sundin and brother James F. Crown.
