Obituary for Gail C. Young

June 13, 2021
Yardley, Pennsylvania

Gail Christine Young (73) of Yardley PA died peacefully June 13, 2021 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newton, PA. For those who knew her, you know that she was full of love and generosity for all of those around her. She had a witty sense of humor and loved talking about her alma mater, Penn State, as well as the Royal Family; both subjects she enjoyed very much. In her healthier days, you could find her catching a game in Happy Valley rooting on her favorite team. She was their #1 fan, and visiting Penn State brought her a lot of joy. In her spare time she loved to root for Philadelphia sports teams, and spend quality time with her family at cook-outs, holidays, and birthday parties. In 2014, she took the trip of a lifetime and was able to visit Buckingham Palace while she attended her niece's wedding in Scotland. She had dreamed of visiting Scotland and England for many years and shared many great memories with her family on that trip.
The past few years brought many health challenges for Gail, but she always found joy in spending time with her seven grand nephews and nieces. Gigi, as we called her, loved to shower the kids with gifts and affection. She loved her family very much and was always there when you needed her. Her smile and sense of humor were contagious, and you always knew you were in for a few laughs when Aunt Gail was coming to visit.
Gail devoted her life to her son, Craig, and cherished their close relationship deeply. They would travel to State College annually for vacations, and always found time to watch sports together. Gail and Craig had strong commitments to many local sports teams, specifically Penn State, The Philadelphia Eages, and the Phillies. Gail herself was an athlete, and was an All-American Field Hockey Player at Penn State, where she graduated in 1969. Gail also excelled in softball and was the youngest player in a local adult league where she developed many skills that made her a tremendous athlete. Gail retired in 2012 after teaching for 30+ years in the state of New Jersey. Prior to their passings, Gail was very close with her parents, Edythe and Walter Young Sr. They were her best friends, and always supported her throughout her life. They were very proud of Gail and Craig.

Gail is survived by her loving son, Craig Young, also of Yardley, PA and her younger brother Pete, his wife Kathy, of Dover, DE, and their daughters; Amanda Coker and her husband Jeremy of Milford, DE and their boys Ian, Kellen, and Cole; Caitlyn Payne and her husband John of Bearsden, Scotland and their children Baxter and Campbell; and her youngest niece and Goddaughter Rebecca Strehle and her husband Lincoln of Oreland, PA and their children Brady and Marlowe. She was very much loved by her family and will be missed and thought about often. Services will be held on Monday August 9th at Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, 323 Washington Ave. Newtown, PA 18940 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown, PA or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Gail spent her last few days at Chandler Hall Hospice where she was treated like a Queen.
