Obituary for George Cavell

May 16, 2021
Newtown, Pennsylvania

George Anthony Cavell passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 16, 2021. He was 68 years old. George was born in New York, New York to Mary "Bette" and Louis Cavell. He is survived by his children, Marc (Michelle), Jason, and Madeline; grandchildren, Maya, and Max; longtime partner Ann Brown; 2 Ex-Wives, Cherie Jacobs and Kathleen Manning; as well as 5 siblings, Mary Casale, Margaret Judd, David Cavell, Catherine Garr, and Joanne Greco. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Alfred Casale, Dino Garr, Peter Greco, and Cousin Margaret Gottschall; 5 nieces and 2 nephews.

George, a New York City native, was born in 1952 and spent his childhood years in Yonkers. He was a member of the East Yonkers Boys club and thoroughly enjoyed his early baseball career. George went on to attend Fordham Preparatory School, Fordham University, and received his JD from Pace University. George began his career at Royal Insurance Company and then joined American Re-Insurance Company in 1984, where he would spend the rest of his career. George was responsible for the oversight of a professional claim staff that managed pollution, asbestos, toxic products and other latent claims and coverage litigation, and also first party property and bond/surety losses and litigation. As a top attorney in his field he was appointed to the board of ARIAS-US, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to improving the insurance and reinsurance arbitration process for the international and domestic market. George was an incredible mentor to everyone he worked with at American Re and later Munich Re. He was a true professional in all aspects of his life.

George was a passionate NY sports fan with his favorite teams being the Yankees and Giants. He loved music and sharing it with family and friends. George loved to travel, eat at great restaurants, and dance the night away at his favorite local pubs. In 2009, George was given a dire prognosis after a brain cancer diagnosis, but defied the odds through determination and sheer will, living an additional 12 years. Those years afforded him the opportunity to see his oldest son married, the birth of his 2 grandchildren, and the graduation from both high school and college of his two youngest children. George was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend to many. During his last years he loved to spend his time with his children frequenting Jake's Eatery for Brunch or Starbucks for iced coffee and chocolate croissants. He would not pass you up on a Criminal Mind's marathon or a trip to the salon for a haircut and nail services with long-time friend Sue Cohen. George was intelligent, charming, confident, and so loving. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Services for George will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the Cavell family by visiting
