Obituary

George Francis DeCecco, of Philadelphia, passed away on March 28th at the age of 85. George was the loving husband of Carol A. (nee Sonntag) for 55 years and father to Robin M. Hobbs, Dominic A. DeCecco (Denise Torres-DeCecco), Diane Marie Taylor (John P.), and Teresa E. "Terry" DeCecco (Robert Sifari). George leaves behind an impressive legacy his six grandchildren; Anna, Joshua, Jacob, Andrew, Alex, and Julia.

George was born in South Philadelphia to the late Camillo DeCecco and Elizabeth (nee Capone) and was the brother to the late Ulysses, Fred, and Elizabeth. He spent most of his childhood in Philadelphia and met his wife, Carol, in 1953 when he was working for Western Union Telegram. In 1954, George joined the United States Air Force and worked as a Radar Operator during the Korean War. In 1968, George married Carol A. Sonntag and they began a life together.

After taking on a mentorship with Hiene's Clock Shop, George began a lengthy career in clock making and repair. He spent over 60 years in the Horology field and was considered the preeminent local expert by his peers. George maintained high end timepieces and grandfather clocks for the John Wannamaker Building and Clock Shop, the Union League of Philadelphia, Henry of Mayfair, and many other private owners.

George often enjoyed bowling. He belonged to many different teams over the years and particularly enjoyed the time he spent at Erie Lanes and Thunderbird Lanes. He was also very active with men's league baseball. George loved all animals, especially his cats Bogey and Harry, and was also a semi published sport opinion writer in the Inquirer.

Relatives and friends are invited George's Life Celebration memorial service on Sunday April 3rd at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home from 3-4PM with a service to follow at 4PM; interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in George's Memory to the Northeast Animal Rescue would be greatly appreciated. https://nar.rescuegroups.org/
