Geraldine Hatcher (Johnson), of Philadelphia, passed away surrounded by her loving daughters on May 3rd 2021, at the age of 87. Geraldine was the loving wife of the late Frank Hatcher for 34 years. Geraldine was the caring mother to Francine Hatcher-King (Benjamin), Yvonne R. Mack (William), and Michelle D. Askew (the late Hosa), grandmother to Shannon L. Hatcher, Omar F. Hatcher, and Yoshi Imani Mack, and great grandmother to Yohaan, Ishmael, and Yuri. Geraldine will also be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and sister in laws, Virginia Johnson, Janice Hatcher, Gloria Hatcher, Agnes Hatcher. She was preceded in death by her brother Christopher Johnson, sisters Bonnie, Marilyn and Marcia. A host of extended sons and daughters. Geraldine is survived by her brother Sylvester Johnson and God Son Kevin West, and long term companion, the late Robert "Bobby" Harris.

Geraldine was born in Camden N.J. to the late Columbus Johnson and Allian (nee Evans). She was the oldest of six children. She received her education in the Camden Public schools system and was a proud graduate of Camden High (Castle on the Hill) class of 1952. Geraldine went on to Mercy Douglas School of Nursing and graduated with her Registered Nursing Diploma. She began her professional career at Albert Einstein Medical Center and climbed the ladder of success in her nursing profession, first as a staff nurse in pediatrics, moving on to become the head nurse in Psychiatrics for more than 20 years, and then in her final role with the Labor and Delivery department.

Geraldine worked within the Einstein Medical Center community for over 40 years. She filled many roles from a staff nurse, to specializing as a labor and delivery nurse, to becoming the head nurse of the Psychiatric department. Geraldine loved nursing, and was greatly fulfilled by the people she was able to help over the years.

Geraldine had a passion for travelling. She managed to visit over 40 states with her children on many road trips. She would also travel to Russia, Africa, and Hawaii over the years. Geraldine often took her children and grandchildren to the Caribbean Island of Jamaica, Aruba and the Bahamas.
Geraldine was happiest when she was with her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. She was a wonderful cook and always prepared the best family meals, especially potato salad. She was a mentor, a matriarch, a mother, and a friend to all.

She was an avid sports fan, especially the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Golden State Warriors (Seth Curry). Geraldine enjoyed playing Pinochle with her friends and family. In her retirement years she enjoyed watching game shows and mystery movies.

Relatives and friends are invited to Geraldine's Life Celebration viewing on Thursday May 13th from 6-8PM at the Geitner-Givnish Funeral Home (6230 N. 5th Street, Phila, 19120) on Friday May 14th from 10-11AM with a service to follow at 11AM; interment at Ivy Hill Cemetery.

There will be no Repast due to Covid concerns.

Geraldine's Life Celebration will be streamed live to the Geitner-Givnish FaceBook page on Friday May 14th at 11AM.

The family of Geraldine would like everyone to know that due to the ongoing pandemic, a future memorial to celebrate her and break bread will be announced at a later date.
