Obituary

Harold (Hal) Becker, 95, of Newtown, formerly of Hatboro, passed away on February 11, 2017 at Chandler Hall. A civil engineer, Hal received his BS in 1946, from Duke University, where he was phi beta kappa, president and valedictorian of his graduating class, and his MS from Lehigh University. His long professional career spanned early projects like the New Jersey Turnpike and later Atlantic City casino construction. Following retirement, Hal taught physics at Penn State University. He served his country in the Navy during WW II and as a reservist for many years thereafter.

An avid craftsman, gardener, boater, fisherman, woodsman and gym member, he was a vigorously active outdoorsman into his 90s.

Hal was the beloved husband of the late Ilene Hoffman Becker. He was loving father to Susan Rothstein (Michael), Ilene Young (Herbert), and the late Elizabeth Harm, grandfather of seven grandchildren, David and Julia Rothstein, Harry, Max, and Benjamin Young, and Gregory and the late Christopher Harm, and great grandfather of Lexie and Austin Harm. One of seven siblings, Hal is survived by his brother Edward, and preceded in death by siblings Lawrence Becker, Alice Ridley, Helen Harkins, Frances Washabaugh, and William (Billy) Becker who fought and died in Normandy.

Relatives and friends are invited to Harold's Life Celebration, Saturday, February 18, 2017, 10-11AM at St John Bosco Church, 215 E. County Line Rd, Hatboro, PA 19040. Followed by his funeral mass at 11AM. Interment to follow at St John Newman Cemetery.
