Obituary

Helen Marta Lener (nee Beinert), 94, of Normandy Farms Estates, passed away on August 8, 2019 at her residence, surrounded her family. Helen was born on Staten Island, the daughter of German Immigrants, the late Gustav and Ella Beinert. At the age of 10, after her father died in 1934, she along with her mother and brother moved to Germany to be with family. Helen grew up in WWII Germany as an American. At the age of 21 she was allowed to return to the United States if someone would sponsor her., her grandmother and step grandfather still living on Staten Island agreed to do so. Working hard as a Dental Assistant, after 10 years she earned enough to sponsor her mother, brother, his wife, and children to come the US in 1956.

Helen organized the German club at Normandy Farms. She also for many years was involved with Normandy Farms Doll Committee; a group of ladies who crafted stuffed dolls for the sick children of St Christopher's Hospital. Helen also volunteered to care for the betterment of residents at Normandy Farms. Known as Oma, she loved to cook and host family dinners. She was a fabulous baker; baking all kinds of special cakes and cookies. She was especially known for her many butter Christmas cookies. She enjoyed traveling, and knitting fine sweaters; outfitting who knew her.

Helen was the devoted wife of the late William married over 45 years. She is survived by her children, Karen (husband Richard "Dick") McMahon, and Linda (husband John K. Flynn) Lener, her three grandchildren: Kathryn " Kate" McMahon ( husband Gary) Molineux, Richard N." Nolan" (wife Casey Fallon) McMahon Jr., and Erin Flynn, great grandchild Gary Molineux Jr. She was preceded in death by her brother Ferdinand Beinert. Oma will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to Helen's Life Celebration on Thursday, August 16, 2019 ; 12:30 at the Monet Room at the Normandy Farms Estates 9000 Twin Silo Road Blue Bell, PA 19422. Her Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to American Macular Degeneration Foundation P.O. Box # 515 North Hampden, MA 01061 .
