Obituary

Hope Cunfer of Doylestown died at Pine Run, early Sunday on October 15, 2017. Hope suffered from Parkinsons Disease for the past ten years. Hope was the daughter of Harry and Annie (nee Rarig) Horne born in Locust Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania on September 27, 1933. Hope attended the Camp School which was built on her parents farm land and was the last of the first through eight schools in Locust Township near Numidia. The students spent their final four years at the Locust Township High School (now part of the Southern Columbia District). Hope was Valedictorian of her senior class. After graduation Hope attended Bloomsburg State teachers College (now Bloomsburg University) where she met and married Edwin W. Cunfer, they have been married sixty two years. Hope was encouraged by Dr. Oliver Heckman, superintendant of the Neshaminy Schools to join her husband who was already in his third year at the Neshaminy High School. Hope's initial teaching assignment was at the Pine Street Annex in Langhorne. After five years living in Langhorne, the Cunfer family moved to Edgeboro Drive in Newtown and stayed there for forty seven years.

Always interested in music, Hope served as the organist in her home church in Numidia and continued serving the Presbyterian Church in Newtown mostly on the piano, but also on the old organ in the Historic Newtown Church during the summer months. Hope also sang with the Palmsters at the church and wrote many Kindergarten songs when she returned to the classroom after she and ed raised a son, Todd, who after 20 years with the Hershey Company and now works as the CFO for a new food company SMPL. Daughter Lizabeth, grew up with her love of music, both at Council Rock High School and Lebanon Valley College and then as a music teacher at Tamamend Middle School. At Rolling Hills Elementary School, where Hope and Sue Fusco taught the Kindergarten classes Hope wrote many songs she could use with the children, and eventually used a sabbatical time to put together a song book for her class, named "LITTLE Songs for Little People". Hope's husband surprised her by staging an author's luncheon at the Brick Hotel where all the quests enjoyed a nice luncheon and each attendee received a copy of the book. Hope did many other community projects through the schools, church, and with her many school friends and neighbors. She also volunteered in the Doylestown Hospital Gift Shope for twenty years. Hope is survived by her husband, Edward, daughter Beth Cunfer, her son, Todd, and his wife, Jennifer, and their daughters, Caroling and Lauren. Hope is also survived by many wonderful neighbors and many long-time friends. Hope received excellent care and support from her doctors, nurses, support staff at Doyolestown Health, Christ Home, Pine Run and from Dr. Bohdan Martynec and his entire staff at Doylestown Medical Associates.

Hope's Life Celebration service will be held Friday, October 27th at 11:00 am with a calling hour prior from 10:00 until her service at 11:00 am at the Newtown Presbyterian Church, 25 North Chancellor Street, Newtown, PA Hope's inurnment will be held at the privately.
