Obituary for Irma Huchler

January 21, 2017
Newtown, Pennsylvania

Irma Huchler died peacefully Saturday January 21, 2017, in Newtown, PA surrounded by her family. Irma celebrated a wonderful 100 years on December 27, 2016 with family and friends.

Irma was born in Wilhelmshaven, Germany in 1916 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1934 with her older sister Marichen. She married John Baptist Huchler in 1937 and had her only son in 1938. They opened a deli and worked hard until they decided to semi-retire and obtain their Real Estate licenses in 1975. They returned to Germany often to visit relatives. After living in New York for 70 years she moved to Friends Home in Newtown, PA where she lived independently for 12 years. Her favorite activity was bingo and played her last game at 100 years old. She was very happy living at Friends Home and had many friends there that will miss her. You could find her every Friday at the Farmers market buying chicken wings and oranges. Many people asked the secret of living such a long life. Her response was always "Work hard, Eat well and Be happy".

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, August William and Marie Mehnsen Hattendorf, sisters Martha, Augusta, Grete and brothers William and Eric. Irma is survived by her son, John (Loraine) Huchler of Lawrenceville, NJ; her sister Marichen Dannhauser of Toms River (102 years old), granddaughter Lisa Huchler-Smith of Yardley, PA, grandsons John (Lori) of Marlton, NJ and David (Jackie) of Potomac Falls, VA. Great-grandchildren Amanda and Michael Huchler, Nicole and Morgan Smith, Haley, Ethan and Aidan Huchler.

She is also survived by her ex daughter-in-law Lucille Huchler, one niece, Elsie, and nephews, William, Rudy, Carl, Herb and Robert.

Relatives and friends are invited to Irma's life celebration from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb 2, 2017 at the Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home 323 Washington Ave., Newtown, PA. On Friday, Feb 3, 2017 relatives and friends are invited to the The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville 2688 Main St (Rt 206) Lawrenceville, NJ where calling hours will be 2-3 pm with a memorial service from 3-4 pm.
