Obituary

James J. Fitzgerald "Fitz", age 70, of Willow Grove, PA, died on Friday, December 30, 2016 in his home with his family by his side. Son of the late James and Anne Fitzgerald, Jim was born on February 22, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Father Judge High School, Class of 1964. He started his career at RCA, then moved onto selling insurance, and won a prestigious sales award his very first year. Most notably, Jim built his career as a food broker for over 30 years.

He also tended bar on weekends for 30 years at Tessy Muldoon's Drinking Saloon and Vitale's Restaurant in Northeast Philly. Through his work, bartending and his hobbies, he met a lot of interesting people that became his close friends. He loved to play golf, travel, and spend time in Florida. In his younger days, he played softball, football, skied, and gathered with friends at the Jersey Shore. Of all his accomplishments, Jim was most proud of his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kathy (Hesson) and 4 children: Denise (Matt) Smith, Brian (Brenda) Fitzgerald, Casey (Jim) Henry, and Shannon (John) D'Alessio. Jim was a proud and playful "Poppy" to 9 grandchildren: Reilly, Jackson, Nolan, Lucas, Declan, Fiona, Curran, JD and Arthur. Jim also leaves behind his sisters: Nancy Vollmar, Kathleen Schival and MaryJane Hural.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 7 – 9 PM and on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 9-10am at Craft-Givnish Funeral Home, 1801 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am at St. David's Church at 316 Easton Rd, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
