Obituary

James J. Roberts of Abington, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away on October 10, 2018. He was 82 years old. Jim was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn (nee Roemhild). He is survived by his loving children Lynn Hackius (Wayne), Debbie Helveston (Joe), Val Hughes (Tim), Glenn Roberts (Lisa) and Tracey Ferraro (Brian). Jim was Predeceased by son Jimmy Roberts. He was the dear PopPop of 14 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren.

Jim was born on December 21, 1935 in Philadelphia to John and Nora Roberts. He had two sisters and one brother. He grew up in North Philadelphia. He joined the Marines in 1954 and proudly served 2 years working mostly on an aircraft carrier. Jim met his beloved wife Marilyn in October of 1952 and were married on October 19, 1957. They started a family on Higbee Street in Oxford Circle and had six beautiful children together. They met many wonderful neighbors on Higbee Street that became their second family. They hosted many parties, especially the famous Christmas Eve celebration. Jim and Marilyn loved spending time at their trailer down the shore and on their pontoon boat, The Bob-a-Lou and Penguin Too. After retirement, Jim and Marilyn enjoyed spending time with all their grandchildren. But most of all, they enjoyed their time together with their beloved beagle Armstrong.

Relatives and friends are invited to share in Jim's Life Celebration Monday, October 15th, from 7:30 to 9:30 AM at Craft/Givnish of Abington, 1801 Old York Rd., Abington, PA 19001 and to participate in his funeral mass 10:00 AM at Our Lady Help of Christians, 1500 Marian Rd., Abington, PA 19001. Interment Lawnview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jim's memory to the American Cancer Society, 1818 Market St., Suite 2820, Philadelphia, PA 19103 would be appreciated by his family.
