Obituary

James (Jim) G. de Benedictis, 96 of Gettysburg, PA, formerly of Langhorne, passed away on January 26, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Mary "Sue" (nee Smith) de Benedictis. Loving father of Paul (Leigh Marshall), Diane de Benedictis (Monica Montanez), Susan Kratz (Dan), Stephen (Shannon Malone-de Benedictis) and the late Brian de Benedictis. Caring grandfather of Christine, Alex, Kristen, Ryan and Kimberly. Great grandfather of Dominic and Theo. Dear brother of William "Bill" de Benedictis and the late Edith Thallmayer and Pauline LaVerghetta.

Jim enlisted after Pearl Harbor and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps' 570th Bomb Squadron, 390th Bombardment Group (H), 8th Air Force in Framlingham, England, during World War II, from 27 July 1943 until 25 June 1945. He was a ground crew chief for four B-17s. After the war Jim used the GI Bill to attend Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University) where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. As he progressed as an engineer Jim specialized in industrial water treatment working at the Tennessee Valley Authority, Culligan, and Purolite eventually becoming a nationally recognized expert in the field.

Jim and Sue lived in Langhorne for over forty years where they raised their five children. Jim was active in Our Lady of Grace Parish where he was an usher and supported Catholic Charities drives. He was also a friend of the Langhorne Historical Society and a member of the VFW where he proudly represented soldiers from World War II.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jim's Life Celebration Monday, February 4, 2019, 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Dunn Givnish of Langhorne, 378 South Bellevue Ave and Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Our Lady of Grace Church, 225 Bellevue Ave, Penndel, PA 19047. Followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00AM. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
